Park History

Lake Walcott State Park is truly represents a distinct property type: the Reclamation Recreation Area.
The park is also an excellent example of a New Deal landscape, typifying CCC design and construction.
Lake Walcott State Park was named after Charles D. Walcott, who was the third director of the U.S. Geological Survey.
In 1906 the Bureau of Reclamation created the lake when it completed Minidoka Dam, an 86 ft high earth fill dam.
The Civilian Conservation Corp established a camp in 1933, responsible for many of the rock walls still visible around the park.
